2008 Las Vegas Open Backgammon Tournament Results
Stacy Turner of Georgia is the winner of ABT Las Vegas Open, held between November 12 and November 16 at the Riviera Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada with the elite of the American backgammon circuit plus visitors from other continents. Californian Matt Cohn-Geier is the runner up, who is followed by semi-finalists Perry Gartner of Florida and Alvaro Savio of Brazil. The first Consolation Division was won by Richard Munitz of New York, last year's ABT player of the year.
The Championship Division of the 2008 Las Vegas Open backgammon tournament started on Thursday, November 13th, with full capacity of 98 backgammon pros. With 22 re-buys, the competition continued until the last day of the event, until Stacy Turner defeated Matt Cohn-Geier, and by that ensured his participation at the next ABT event– California State Championship, scheduled to the first week of December 2008, which will be closing American Backgammon Tour events for this year.
Yet Stacy Turner victory was not the final backgammon match at the 2008 Las Vegas Open; the Championship Division final table was followed by an After Tournament Tournament, in which Kit Woolsey took over the first pAs aforesaid, the next reunion of the American pro backgammon circuit will be at the ABT California State Championship on the weekend of December 5-7, 2008 at the Airtel Plaza Hotel & Convention Center in Van Nuys, California. This final ABT event will conclude the 2008 ABT player of the year.
