Backgammon NewsApril 21, 20092009 WSOB Schedule AnnouncedWorld Series of Backgammon Enterprises Ltd has finally announced the schedule of the third, long awaited, season of the WSOB tour at the 2009 Nordic Open backgammon tournament, held last week in Helsingor, Denmark. 2009 WSOB will be launched on July 2009 with the Riviera Cup in Cannes, traditionally, WSOB championship location, and will come to its end in October at the UK Masters in London. Andy Bell and Eric Guedj, the founders of the World Series of Backgammon Enterprises Ltd, the backgammon TV series and tournament, used the large crowd of backgammon pros gathered at the Play65 Nordic Open to reveal the 2009 WSOB tour dates and the WSOB championship format. World Series of Backgammon season III will be a three-stop tour: the Riviera Cup in Cannes on July 22-26, Prague European Championships on September 9-13 and London UK Masters on October 21-25, 2009. Full details and exact locations will be released on the beginning of May. The WSOB Championship will be held at the UK Masters, offering a €320.000 prize pool. 32 players will be battling for the WSOB Champion title; 8 of them will be required to gain the top scores at the WSOB Race while the other 24 seats will be taken by online backgammon qualifiers or winners of WSOB Super Satellite events. Championship seats are priced at €10.000. After the successful second season of the World Series of Backgammon, giving away €100.000 in cash to the champion and €60.000 more to the runner up, and despite rumors on its downfall, the WSOB 3rd season has been highly anticipated. According to Bell and Guedj official announcement, the third season was delayed due to business negotiations with the parent company and majority shareholder Partouche Interactive, which ended with the two purchases of the World Series of Backgammon Enterprises Limited company. Yet, the season, first announced to be launched on March 2009 at the UK Masters backgammon tournament, will begin on July this year. |
