Nordic Open Satellite - Backgammon Tournament in London
The first Nordic Open Satellite took place on Saturday, February 24 in London. Sponsored by the World Series of Backgammon, the winner of the backgammon tournament, Murray Sharp has ensured his participation at the WSOB main event, scheduled to take place in Cannes, France in July 2008.
The 2008 Nordic Open is the second official WSOB qualifier, following UK Masters event, held in November 2007 with 123 entrants and English John Hurst as the winner. The Nordic Open, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary and its official inclusion in the WSOB official events, will take place in March 20-24, 2008 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Continuing the tradition started with the UK Masters qualifier, Backgammon in London (formerly Backgammon in Camden) has organized a satellite tournament sponsored by the WSOB, and Partouche Gammon, one of the main sponsors of the Nordic Open event. The Nordic Open Satellite in London featured 68 entries and consisted of 7 tournaments. Murray Sharp, the winner of the event earned a free entrance to the championship division of the WSOB plus accommodation for the 5 nights of the event.
