Backgammon NewsMarch 3, 2008European Backgammon Tour Portuguese Open 2008The 2nd season of the European Backgammon Tour will be launched in April 2008 with the 3rd Portuguese Open & Backgammon Davis Doubles. The 6-days backgammon tournament will begin on April 29 until May 4 at the Casino Estoril in Portugal. The 3rd Portuguese Open champion will be awarded with a free seat at the 2nd EGBT event, 2nd Gogi Bukia Memorial and Georgian Open in Tbilisi, Georgia. It is the third year of the highly expected backgammon event the Portuguese Open. For the first time, the event will be a part of the European Backgammon Tour, governed by the World Backgammon Association. The top 3 winners of the 1st European Backgammon Tour season will be revealed at the final day of the Portuguese Open event. The 2nd season of the EGBT is expected by the World Backgammon Association to be even more successful than the previous one. The total payout is predicted to exceed 1 million dollars, comparing to the $600,000 prize pool shared by last year's winners. Consisted of 4 events (in Portugal, Georgia, Romania and Italy), the winner of each main division will win free entry to the next tournament in the series. As in last year's final EGBT event, the 19th City of Venice International Backgammon Tournament, in the Portuguese 2008, Play65 backgammon site will be sending qualifiers to compete against top backgammon pros. |
