Falafel wins 2008 Portuguese Open
"Play65 is my lucky charm", said Falafel Natanzon, 2007 Backgammon Giant and the 2008 Portuguese Open Champion after defeating his German competitor Gotz Hildberg at the final event of the WBA event at the Casino Estoril on May 4th.
The Israeli backgammon player Falafel, who claimed victory in a major tournament for the first time, got very emotional at the awards ceremony and gave an entire speech on the online backgammon website that recently made him a guest of honor at the Backgammon Championship of Israel. At the same occasion, Falafel was surprised to receive the "Giant of Backgammon" trophy from Mr. Carter Mattig who came all the way from the US.
The World Backgammon Association 2008 Portuguese Open saw over 90 of the world's leading backgammon players. Three of them were qualifiers of Play65 backgammon site: Denis Etienne of Switzerland, Ara Artuyunyan of Uzbekistan and the Israeli Oz Cohen-Zada who was recently crowned the Backgammon Champion of Israel. The latter, has been amazing the tournament entrants by beating top backgammon pros including French Francois Tardieu, Falafel's biggest opponent and number 3 at the Giants of Backgammon.
